Everton of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi is bound to know the identity of his next coach early next week, as The Toffees’ top brass have already set plans in motion to open talks with their strong targets, but little is begin said about a possible return ot David Moyes.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that, rather than get Moyes into the early picture, the first tactician Iwobi and his pals will discuss in hushed tones among one another is Portuguese, as Everton’s buffs have opened talks with Shanghai SIPG of China boss, Vitor Pereira, in a bid to quickly replace Marco Silva.
Iwobi’s club officials sacked Silva a day after Wednesday’s 5-2 defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby, which left the team 18th in the English Premier League, and Pereira is now understood to be part of a four-man shortlist for his replacement, with Moyes also included.
It is understood the Portuguese coach held talks with Chelsea in the summer, but they were put off by Pereira’s contract in Shanghai, believed to be in the region of £30m a year, after he led the team to third spot in the Chinese Super League last season.
In recent weeks, Arsenal and Watford are also thought to have been in contact with Pereira over their vacant manager’s positions, but it is understood he is willing to consider an offer from The Toffees, which would be another challenge for the gaffer, who has also handled Fenerbahce aof Turkey, Olympiakos of Greece and FC Porto of Portugal.
Dramatically, he had also earlier been considered by The Toffees as Moyes’ replacement before the club settled on Roberto Martinez in 2013, but the 51-year-old is currently one of the highest-paid coaches in the world and was recently offered the job of managing China’s national team.
For this weekend, though, Iwobi and his mates will make due of playing under former Everton star, Duncan Ferguson, who will take temporary charge of the team ahead of Saturday’s game against Chelsea, but the club aim to confirm a new permanent manager as swiftly as possible.
Ferguson told Sky Sports News: “It’s an honour for me to be taking the role. I’m proud to be asked and hopefully we can give the fans something to smile about again.”
