Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Cyriel Dessers is secretly praying that in-form Super Eagles’ hitman, Paul Ebere Onuachu should leave the Jupiler League club this season, in order to allow him stamp his authority in the team, megasportsarena.com reports.
With Onuachu having been on fire from beginning to end of the past campaign, in which he emerged top scorer, best African player and most valuable performer overall across the entire league, Dessers admitted he was not match for his compatriot.
However, Onuachu’s burst of form has also opened up the former Young Stars of Lagos, FC Ebedie of Shagamu and FC Midtjylland of Denmark giant up for frenetic transfer links, which Dessers admitted he wants to become reality.
The former Heracles Almelo of Holland hitman, who has a Nigerian mother and Belgian father but opted to play for the Super Eagles at full senior level, confessed that the departure of Onuachu would pave the way for him to finally justify the high rating that took him to Genk last summer.
With that in mind, the mulatto lad has declared emphatically that the departure of Onuachu from Genk will be good for him, after he spent most of last season warming the bench for the giant striker, who went on to emerge top scorer with 35 goals in all competitions.
Onuachu is now widely expected to make a big move this summer, which could give free rein to Dessers, who made his Super Eagles debut last year but managed seven goals, as his colleague’s blistering form meant he did not see much action for Genk in his first season back in Belgium.
Dessers has now admitted he should be banking on Onuachu’s exit from Genk in the summer transfer window, as he would gladly take advantage of the vacuum created by the tall attacker’s departure and make the best of it, as he told Voetbal International: “Hopefully, it will be good for me if he was sold.”
