Tottenham Hotspur of England midfielder, Dele Alli has confessed that he is excited with confirmation of the resumption of action in the English Premier League on June 17, as he has been bored and uncomfortable staying at home without any action, megasportsarena.com reports.
The Nigerian-born dazzler, who is now wearing an unkempt beard as one of the major relics of self-isolation on account of coronavirus, stressed that returning to football in the middle of next month is a huge welcome relief and change to the current situation in which all players in and outside England have been left redundant.
Ironically, Alli suffered a burglary attack during the lockdown period in England, when two hoodlums invaded his home and left with several valuables belonging to him and his girlfriend, while also leaving him and his brother with bruises from punches to their faces.
The England international, though, quickly brushed aside effects of that incident to join in reduced training with his Spurs’ pals 24 hours later, as they commenced tentative drills backs then, but he is now eagerly looking forward to hitting the ground running with full sessions heading into next month’s return to full-fledged action in the EPL.
Alli is one of several players who took to social media to reveal their enthusiasm about the impending return of top-flight action in England, while several others opened up in catchy media chats about how much they missed football and what they intend to do once the fun gets back.
A report by sportsmail disclosed that Alli is one of several players across the country that have been reacting excitedly to news that the EPL will return on June 17, even as officials revealed that the fans will not be left out, but carried along fully with live telecast of all the games, as all the remaining 92 fixtures of the season will be played behind closed doors.
The report adds: “The weekend of June 20-21 has been lined up for the first full round of fixtures following the Premier League’s resumption, although Manchester City vs Arsenal and Aston Villa vs Sheffield United are set to go ahead on Wednesday June 17.
Following the announcement, Spurs duo Harry Kane and Dele Alli reacted with joy at the proposed return date, while Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling also shared their excitement with fans online.
Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, with his side two games away from winning their first title in 30 years, also posted on his Twitter page. The Dutchman said: ‘WE. GO. AGAIN. We’ll miss having you with us at the stadiums, but we’ll do everything we can to make you proud.’
Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling also posted a photo on his Twitter, simply captioning ‘June 17’ alongside a photo of himself at training. The Premier League have desperately been trying to finalise plans to get the season back underway again following its suspension at the beginning of March amid the coronavirus crisis.
Liverpool are expected to win their first Premier League title when the season resumes, as they currently have a 25-point lead over second-placed City. Should City lose their first game back to the Gunners on June 17, Jurgen Klopp’s men will be confirmed as champions should they beat rivals Everton just a few days later.
