Nigerian-born world heavyweight boxing champion, Anhony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua has received yet another broadside from his main rival and fellow-Briton, Tyson ‘The Gypsy King’ Fury, who says he would easily defeat his adversary even if he were drunk, megasportsarena.com reports.
In what becomes the latest chapter of his jocular sneers before entering the ring against his opponents, Fury aimed a fresh dig at Joshua, as the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight king declared that he could drink 14 pints of beer and still defeat the World Boxing Organization (WBO), World Boxing Association (WBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion.
This comes at a point a long-awaited agreement on a £200m unification bout between Fury and AJ is reportedly close, with the victor set to become the first heavyweight to hold all the four major global belts simultaneously since another British fighter, Lennox Lewis did same in 1999.
Three promoters at the centre of the talks – Eddie Hearn, Frank Warren and Bob Arum – have all spoken enthusiastically about a deal being agreed with the latter declaring recently that all the issues holding up the announcement have been resolved.
Heading into the first of two planned megafights between them, Fury revealed that he is on holiday ‘drinking up to 12 pints a day’ and that he has stopped training altogether, only to add that he does not need to be in peak condition to defeat his British rival.
‘The Gypsy King’ was last in action in February 2020 when he put in a career-best performance to defeat USA’s knockout icon, Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas for the WBC belt, but he stressed that he need not train excessively in order to beat ‘AJ,’ because he knows his rival’s body type.
Fury told MTK Global live via talkSPORT : “I’m not training anymore. Until I get a date, then I go back into training camp. I only need six, seven weeks anyway for these bums and that’s it.
“I could drink 14 pints of beer and still give AJ a hiding, no problem. Everyone in the building knows more about this fight than I do actually. Apparently it’s done, it’s signed, we’ve got a date, venue – news to me, I don’t know
“I’m looking for a challenge; I’ve been looking, searching the world for 13 years as a professional to find a man who can better me. I just can’t find him.”
