Glasgow Rangers of Scotland look set to add to their collection of Nigerian players, as The Gers, who currently have Super Eagles’ rookie, Joe Aribo in their squad, have opened a n official line of communication with Golden Eaglets invitee, Adrian Akande, who starred for the under-17 national team at the African championship in Tanzania while on the cards of Chelsea of England, megasportsarena.com reports.
The Gers, who had the Nigeria duo of Ovie Ejaria and Sadiq Umar for a spell on loan last season, will, however, have to move fast in their bid to snatch Akande in January, as the youngster has also attracted interest from Chelsea’s fellow-London-based rivals, West Ham United and TSG Hoffenheim of Germany, who once had Chinedu Obasi in their ranks.
Despite interest from TSG and Rangers, though, Adrian has mostly been linked with a move to join Nigerian-born Italian defender, Angelo Obinze Ogbonna at London Stadium, having opted out of Chelsea, where he spent four years, but failed to get a scholarship deal with the club.
It means Akande is free to move to another team next month and the youngster, who missed Nigeria’s roster to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil but recently had trials with West Ham, now hopes to wrap up a switch to The Hammers in the coming month, in spite of keen interest from Rangers and Hoffenheim.
