Leicester City of England midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi has emerged as a strong summer transfer option at The Foxes’ English Premier League rivals, Manchester United, but the report out of Queensland indicates that he is only a B-option for Odion Jude Ighalo’s side, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is due to a caveat that United will only make the move for Ndidi if they fail to get their first and preferred target, Donny van de Beek, from Ajax Amsterdam of Holland, who United have been in the hunt for since last year and would aim for him before making a formal bid for Ndidi in the summer transfer window.
However, British newspaper, The Express reported that United have added Ndidi to their vast summer transfer roster as a contingency plan and The Red Devils could make an official bid for his signature if they miss out on Van de Beek, who is also on the radar of Real Madrid of Spain.
This is an additional lift for Ndidi, who has been linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid of Spain, Arsenal and Chelsea of England as well as Paris Saint-Germain in recent months, but United’s boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the former Nath Boys of Lagos and Racing Genk of Belgium lad top of his mind, as he is in the hunt for a central midfielder.
While Bayern Munich of Germany’s Corentin Tolisso has also been mentioned as a target for the same position on offer at Old Trafford, the edge of long-term experience in the EPL is going in favour of Ndidi, who earlier attracted interest from Ighalo’s club before he joined Leicester in January 2017.
It is now left to be seen if Old Trafford will be the next port of call for the soft-spoken Nigerian international, whose current contract runs till the 2023/24 season, with more rave reviews still trailing the lad, after scoring two goals and adding one assist in 29 games across all competitions so far this season.
The report adds: “Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ‘more than a passing interest’ in the 23-year-old. Ndidi has made 130 appearances for Leicester since joining from Genk in 2017. PSG and Real Madrid are also interested in his signature.”
