SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen is set to stay committed and loyal to the Italian Serie A club, despite the recent sack of his mentor and favourite coach, Gennaro Gattuso by the club’s management, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speculation had been rife that the former Ultimate Strikers of Lagos, VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, Sorting Charleroi of Belgium and Lille Metropole of France hitman could opt to leave the Naples-based club due to the exit of the man who engineered his signing last summer, but Osimhen’s agent has refuted that suggestion.
Rather than acquiesce to the possibility of his ward moving on in annoyance over the decision of the Napoli’s top brass buffs to send Gattuso packing, Osimhen’s agent, William D’Avila assured that his ward will stay put and give his best under the new gaffer, Luciano Spalletti.
Osimhen scored 10 goals in his debut season in the Italian Serie A, as he endured a campaign slowed down by injuries, Coronavirus infection and off-field incidents, only to hit form at the last ditch but it was not enough to help Napoli into the UEFA Champions League.
Speculation has now been rife over his future with The Blues, as Gattuso was sacked after failing to get the team into continental football next season, following a 1-1 draw at home with Hellas Verona on the final day of the season, but D’Avila has assured that Osimhen will not leave.
D’Avilla enthused that the new coach’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation will help bring out the best in Osimhen, who he predicted will do even better next season, and the agent added during a chat with Radio Kiss Kiss: “It will be great for the team to have a top coach like him.
“4-2-3-1 will be the formation and Victor will be the offensive force. He is disappointed Napoli did not qualify (for the UEFA Champions League), but the Europa League is also a prestigious tournament. He will be in Napoli of course, there are no other destinations.”
