Watford of England defender, William Troost-Ekong has enthused that the Super Eagles will get another boost when they tango Liberia this Friday in Lagos, as he believes the good status of the pitch at Teslim Balogun Stadium will aid their cause, megasportsarena.com reports.
While revealing that all players in the Eagles’ camp are determined to put in their best during the game, which will kick-start their quest for a ticket to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the team’s assistant captain stressed that playing on s good surface will further motivate them.
The former Tottenham Hotspur of England youth team central defender, who has also starred for Haugesund of Norway, FC Utrecht of Netherlands, KAA Gent of Belgium, Bursaspor of Turkey and Udinese of Italy, also cited the spirit of togetherness being exuded in the Nigerian camp.
He enthused that unity and camaraderie should also aid their quest for victory, even as he buttressed that they are all the players are confident of victory, heading into the opening match of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia.
While also hailing the quality of players invited for the game in Lagos and the next just four days later in Cape Verde, Troost-Ekong stressed that the playing surface for Friday’s game makes him very happy, as it is now in top shape, compared to their last game against Lesotho in March.
Troost-Ekong stated with glee: “We are really happy and the pitch is looking good compared to the last time we were here, they worked on it very well.
“So, we have to give them credit for that. I’m just hoping the weather is not going to be too much rain, so we can be ready to play on Friday.
“I am very happy to play in this team; it’s a very exciting time to be part of the Super Eagles. We’ve got so much quality so we are confident
“When I look at the team and I look at the training session and the kind of players we’re playing with, I think we have all the right to be confident.
“But we always have to stay humble and we have to respect the opponent as well. So, we know they are good as well.”
