Former Super Eagles’ left-back, Taye Ismailia Taiwo is heading out this week to Cyprus, as he sees to revive his career with a club in the island nation’s lower division, megasportsarena.com reports.
After failing to hit headlines while playing in Finland in recent years, ‘The Tornado’ now wants to try out with Cypriot First Division club, Doxa Katokopias, with which talks have already reached an advanced stage and an official announcement is expected before the end of this week about his arrival in the team.
The once fearsome left-back, who starred in Nigeria’s silver-winning teams at both Holland 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup and Beijing 2008 Olympic Games as well as 2010 World Cup in South Africa, while also playing for Nigerdock of Lagos, Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Olympique Marseille of France, AC Milan of Italy, Queens Park Rangers of England and Dynamo Kiev of Ukraine, is still buzzing.
His zeal to continue making waves at 35 has now led him into signing a year’s contract with Doxa and he is now billed to fly out of Italy to Cyprus this week for his official presentation by the club he sealed the deal with on Friday, almost a full year after his exit from Rovaniemen Palloseura of Finland at the end of last season.
The hot-shot left-back, who has also starred for Bursaspor of Turkey, HJK Helsinki of Finland, Lausanne-Sport of Switzerland and Athletic Eskilstuna of Greece, has top Cypriot players’ agent, Tekin Birinci to thank for the deal taking him to Doxa Katokopias.
It now appears like a mere formality for information to emerge in the coming days about the confirmation of the deal, even as the club are holding ‘TT’ in high esteem, with a CV that also includes appearances for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
