Nigeria’s male and female national teams, Super Eafglles and Super Falcons have bought received pass marks from an ex-international defender, Patrick Pascal, who says both squads pulled off some remarkable feats in the outgoing year, megasportsarena.com reports.
In contrast with widespread views among many analysts, stakeholders, former players and fans that the Nigerian national teams failed in 2019, Pascal insists it was not all gloom for the nation, considering how the Eagles soared at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, and the Falcons took a step further at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
While Nigerians would cite poor outings by the Golden Eaglets, Flying Eagles, Super Sand Eagles and CHAN Eagles at their various global competitions during the year in review, while the under-23 team, Olympic Eagles and Falcons and failed to make it to the Olympic billed for next year in Tokyo, Japan, ‘PP’ insists
The former Wikki Tourists of Bauchi and Shooting Stars of Ibadan defender, Nigeria’s Atlanta ‘96 Olympic Games gold medal-winning team and is now coordinator of the Eagles as well as Bauchi State Football Association chairman, posited that 2019 was not so bad for the country after all.
Pascal stressed: “What I know and remember is that this year, Nigeria finished third from the biggest-ever AFCON championship in history and Nigerians are excited about a young and strong team that almost defeated Brazil in a friendly match and looks very promising for the future.
“I also know that this year, the Super Falcons reached the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 20 years, and last year, we came very close to reaching the Round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup in Russia.”
