West Bromwich Albion of England defender, Semi Ajayi could receive a massive 50% cut in his current salary or even bigger reductions, should he and his colleagues fail to save The Baggies from relegation.
Megasportsarena.com reports that this much has been revealed by the English Premier League club’s coach, Sam Allardyce, who warned that there would be dire financial consequences should the team fail to stay up.
Although Ajayi has been personally in top form and scoring goals one by the dozen with the EPL stragglers, their fortunes have not been any better since gaining promotion last term, such that ‘Big Sam’ is already wary of a worst case scenario playing out at the end of the current campaign.
The 27-year-old Ajayi has scored twice in 24 appearances so far this season for WBA, but The Baggies remain second from bottom on the log, 11 points from safety with 13 matches left to played, and Allardyce is raising dust over their plight.
The man who handled former Super Eagles’ captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha during their days together at Bolton Wanderers, lamented that Albion’s players apparently do not understand what they stand to lose should they slump back to the English Championship.
Allardyce concluded tersely: “They could lose 50% of their salary or even bigger reductions if they failed to remain in the Premier League. This is their bread and butter and they ought to be more concerned.”
