English Championship duo of Semi Ajayi at West Bromwich Albion and Eberechi Eze of Queens Park Rangers both set new goals scoring marks at the weekend, with strong hints that they still have lots more to offer, megasportsarena.com reports.
While Ajayi is making the best of his versatile abilities, which see him play in central defence, as right-back or holding midfielder for The Baggies, Eze is on a romp as QPR’s sensational playmaker in their bid for long-sought promotion to the English Premier League.
At the weekend, Eze set a new personal record for the highest number of goals he has scored in a single season after bagging a brace in a lower division match against Preston North End at Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium in London.
Eze’s 17th minute strike was his eighth goal of the season from 21 matches in all competitions and he took his current total to nine after scoring again in the 67th minute.
When the attacking midfielder got on the score sheet last weekend at Derby County, he equaled his highest tally in a single season (7) which he first set during the 2017-2018 season for two different clubs.
The 21-year-old rave of the moment, who is being chased by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to play for the Super Eagles, scored only twice for QPR two seasons ago and five during a loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers, who were then in League Two.
Against Preston North End, Queens Park Rangers took the lead as Eze fired home a rebound after his initial effort was saved by goalkeeper Declan Rudd, then he doubled the advantage when he calmly converted a penalty.
On his part, Ajayi was also on song to help WBA overtake Leeds United in the EFL Championship standings, following their 5-1 rout of visiting Swansea City at The Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon.
Ajayi, who has been a regular starter for West Brom this season, after arriving from Rotherham United in the summer and has played every minute of their 20 matches in the Championship, scored the opening goal in the 25th minute, heading home after Kyle Bartley knocked Matheus Pereira’s corner back across goal.
