Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze (Samu) could be the next Nigerian player to ply his trade for West Ham United of England, as latest reports out of Queensland indicate that The Hammers are now in pole position to hook his signature.
Although Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are also said to be in the race for The Yellow Submarine’s left-footed dazzler, the report out of England reveals that West Ham are banking on a chain of sentimental issues to lure ‘Samu’ over to The London Stadium.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that those factors include the past heroics of Victor Obinna Nsofor and Victor Moses at The Hammers, plus the presence of Nigerian-born Italy international, Angelo Obinze Ogbonna in their current squad.
There is also the presence of one of Chukwueze’s former teammates from Villarreal currently making waves in the evolution being guided at the club by renowned Scottish football tactician, David Moyes, who shot former Super Eagles’ captain, Joseph Ikpo Yobo to global stardom at Everton.
Frenetic interest is spreading over Chukwueze, despite the fact that he has only been playing regular football for the past two seasons at Villarreal and had a dip in form at the start of the current season, before returning to top form over the past two weeks.
Following his late spark of top form, Chukwueze, who was heavily courted by Arsenal before his switch to Villarreal in the summer of 2017, has got his feet into 11 goals across 36 appearances for Villarreal in all competitions.
His efforts also helped Villarreal beat Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League and he netted his first career brace in the penultimate round of the Spanish LaLiga matches.
Spanish transfer market website, Fichajes further reported that Chukwueze has also gained attention from Atlético de Madrid of Spain, who have been monitoring him for a long time, but any club that will hook the lad this summer will have to meet terms of a 100 million euro release clause, before he can leave The Yellow Submarine.
A report by Spanish publication, La Razon added: “Everton, West Ham United and Arsenal all want to sign Villarreal forward Chukwueze this summer. The 21-year-old is out-of-contract in 2023 and has four goals and seven assists in 36 appearances this season.
“Hammers boss David Moyes believes he has two trump cards in his locker – potential Champions League qualification and Pablo Fornals, a former team-mate of the Nigerian international.”
