Rangers International of Enugu striker, Ifeanyi George has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to overcome Pyramids FC of Egypt in this weekend’s first match of the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup, megasportsarena.com reports.
With The Flying Antelopes set to host the Egyptians at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on Sunday, George opined that the arrival of Super Eagles’ assistant coach, Salisu Yusuf as their new technical adviser will spur the Coal City side to victory.
The Flying Antelopes, though, will have to be wary of their visitors, who achieved a 5-1 win on aggregate against Tanzania’s Young Africans in the play-off round, Pyramids secured qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup’s group stages.
Rangers, who are drawn in Group A with Pyramids and another Egyptian club, Al Masry as well as FC Nouadhibou, should also note that their visitors are being handled by former Guinea national team coach, Sebastien Desabre, who has named a crack squad for this weekend’s clash.
However, George is of a view that the new man at the helm of technical matters with Rangers is equally well-exposed and vast in the knowledge of football, having previously also handled Kano Pillars and Emyimba of Aba before joining the national team’s coaching crew.
Salisu was also in charge of the home-based squad that won silver at the 2018 Championship of African Nations (CHAN), such that George believes it is not out of place to bank on the newly seconded tactician, who took over Rangers’ crew on Wednesday, following orders by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
George enthused: “I know we will win this match, because we have an experienced coach in charge. I know him very well, and everyone knows as well what he can do. He has the right knowledge of football and tactics that will see us to victory in his game at home.”
