Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu could become the next Nigerian player to line out for SS Lazio of Italy, who have forward a €25m offer for his signature, megasportsarena.com reports.
However, Onuachu’s hope of following Stephen Ayodele Makinwa, Seyifunmi Adeleke, Emmanuel Sani and Eddie Ogenyi Onazi as the next Nigerian to play for the Rome-based Italian Serie A club is facing an obstacle in his club’s asking price.
While Lazio are reportedly ready to pay €25m for his signature early next month, Genk are insisting on getting nothing less than €30m.
That has left a lingering cloud of doubt over Onuachu’s chances of realising his aspirations of joining Napoli’s Victor Osimhen in the Serie A, while Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo (Simy) is set to leave relegated Crotone.
Onuachu will, however, have to pray hard for the transfer to pull through, as the former Young Stars of Lagos, FC Ebedie of Shagamu and FC Midtjylland of Denmark giant striker still has a contract running with Genk until the end of the 2023/24
Details of the repot by Eleven Sports’ columnist, Dave Peters added: “Racing Genk is demanding at least thirty million euros for the free-scoring striker. It is claimed that Lazio are willing to pay €25 million to try and lure the former FC Midtjylland man to the Serie A.
“The 26-year-old is enjoying the most prolific season of his professional career and his strike against RSC Anderlecht last night took his tally to an astonishing 37 goals in 42 appearances for club and country in 2020-2021.
“Lazio face competition for Onuachu’s signature as he has been linked with Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyon and has been watched by other big-five European Leagues clubs.
“If Lazio win the race for the 2.01 meters tall striker, he could follow in the footsteps of another FC Ebedei product Stephen Makinwa who represented The Biancocelesti in his playing days.”
