Top shots at Sporting Charleroi of Belgium will surely be praying for a January transfer deal for Lille Metropole of France striker, Victor Osimhen to Tottenham Hotspur of England, as they stand to smile to the bank with 15% on any amount the lad’s current club agree to sell him off, megasportsarena.com gathered.
Although nothing concrete has been said about Osimhen moving to Spurs, speculation is rife that The Lilywhites’ boss, Jose Mourinho is a keen admirer of the youngster, who has already struck 12 goals in 23 matches, with nine from home fixtures in the French Ligue 1, two from the UEFA Champions League and the last against AS Monaco in the French League Cup on Tuesday.
Osimhen’s fiery form in just half a season at Lille has left many observers marveling over what could be in years to come, especially as he is on fire with the Nigerian national team as well, such that Charleroi will be happy they added a sell-on clause in their transfer terms.
It would be the golden opportunity of handsome compensation for Charleroi, who took more of a gamble on Osimhen when they took the lad on loan from WfL Wolfsburg of Germany, where he failed to get into their main team after four years at their base, while two other Belgian clubs – Zulte Waregem and Club Brugge – refused to sign the youngster on account of fitness issues.
Dramatically, Osimhen went on to hit an unexpected vein of rich goals scoring form and assists for the squad, as he justified Charleroi’s confidence in him by scoring 19 goals and they promptly decided to buy him outright at the end of the season, only for Lille to come calling for a deal.
Charleroi eventually agreed to sell the 20-year-old Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and highest goals scorer, but smartly included terms of a 15% bonus on his next transfer, to any club and at any fee, knowing fully that he had the potential to again be on the move very soon.
A report by Sky Sports UK adds that Osimhen, who had previously been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur before sealing a move to Wolfsburg in January 2017, as again on the radar of both clubs, as well as their English Premier League rivals, Liverpool and Chelsea.
However, Lille’s president, Gérard López stressed that the club’s biggest plan is to keep hold of Osimhen until at least the end of the current campaign, but admits a big-money offer from any of the interested EPL clubs could force a January deal for the in-form youngster.
Should that happen, Spurs look better placed to hook Osimhen, as Lille’s sporting director, Luis Campos, who recommended the Ligue 1 club’s signing of the Ultimate Strikers Football Academy of Lagos product in the summer, holds close links and shares nationality with the London club’s new boss, Jose Mourinho.
Campos had been able to lure his compatriot over to France once in a while, such that Mourinho had been spotted more than once at Lille’s home matches prior to taking over his current job in North London, and he could be inclined to make a spirited move for Osimhen next month.
