Lille Metropole of France striker, Victor Osimhen has given thanks to God for making it possible for him to net his ninth goal of the season in Ligue 1, even as he prayed that he will be able to continue hitting target in the second half of the season and help his side win the title, megasportsarena.com reports.
Osimhen stated as much in the wake of Friday’s 1-0 victory for his team against Brest, as his 16th minute effort was good enough to fetch Lille all three points in the home fixture, and keen them hot in the title race, along with PSG, Olympique Marseille and Girondins-Bordeaux.
The Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup highest goals scorer, who is now one behind Wissam Ben Yedder and Moussa Dembele in the race for Ligue 1’s goleador prize, said he was equally glad to help Lille climb to third spot on the table with Friday’s victory over visiting over Stade Brestois.
The 20-year-old Ultimate Strikers Football Academy of Lagos product, who got an assist in Lille’s 1-0 win over Olympique Lyon in midweek, made hay again after starting his 14th game of the campaign, with his sizzler eventually helping LOSC to their third consecutive maximum points.
He has now scored in all but two other Lille’s matches this season at their home ground, Stade Pierre-Mauroy, as he reacted quickest to turn home a Jonathan Ikone cross to hand his side the lead which they held going into the half time break.
Although Lille’s efforts at getting a second goal failed to materialise, even when they got a spot kick in added time, as Jonathan Bamba’s penalty was stopped by Brest’s keeper, Osimhen took to social media to reveal his personal and collective delight with the result.
