SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen has gained a massive splash of accolades from his club’s coach, Luciano Spaletti, the media unit and a section of the football press in The Land of The Azzurri.
Megasportsarena.com reports that the fresh round of superlatives came after Osimhen ignited another weekend splash of goals from Nigerian players, as he struck the lone sizzler that gave his side victory in another pre-season game.
Osimhen showed signs of what to expect from him this season in the Italian Serie A, as he made a world of difference or Napoli on the same weekend goals came from Kareem Adeyemi in Austria, Armstrong Okoflex in Scotland as well as Folarin Balogun and Moses Odubajo in England.
However, Osimhen was tops of all, as the former Ultimate Strikers Football Academy of Lagos, VfL Wolfsburg of Germany, Sporting Charleroi of Belgium and Lille Metropole of France star helped Napoli to a 1-0 victory over non-league side, Pro Vercelli at Stadio Comunale.
It was Napoli’s second and last friendly match in Dimario, where Osimhen made the difference by popping up midway through the first half to send home a fine header, after Mario Rui’s well-taken corner kick bounced loose in the box.
The lone strike was also Osimhen’s fifth goal in two games, as he earlier hit target four times in 37 minutes when Spalletti’s men thrashed Bassa Anaunia last week, and he now wants to help his Naples-based side win the Italian Serie A, Italian Cup and UEFA Europa League titles.
Ahead of all that, though, Osimhen’s next chance to hit target will come when Napoli to battle Bayern Munich of Germany at Allianz Arena, as they step up their preparations ahead of the 2021/22 season by taking on the German Bundesliga champions.
While Osimhen was replaced by Ciciretti in the 61st minute, his Nigerian-born teammate, Michael Ijemuan Folorunsho went on for Demme in the 18th, while Awua starred all evening long for the losing side.
Osimhen ended the evening with a huge dose of accolades and several splashes in the highlights, while the media unit of Napoli declared afterwards: “Increasingly the protagonist of this first phase of the season.”
Osimhen also gained superlative words from Italian football portal, Calciomercato, which stated in its post-match report: “Clearly (Osimhen’s) goal made the difference, it was decisive for this victory for Napoli.
“He is ready to explode in the new season. He still needs to improve in front of goal, he needs to be more clinical.
“Spalletti himself has excused Osimhen’s shortcomings because of the enormous energy he gives up for the team.”
Spaletti was also filled with glee for the Super Eagles’ youngster, as the coach declared: “Osimhen is a striker who has the ability to transform every ball that comes his way into chances.
“He is a generous player who runs a lot and every now and then this intense race can cause him some mistakes, but he is an important player, complete and we aim a lot on him.”
