Barcelona Femeni of Spain attacker, Asisat Oshoala has hinted that the goal she scored last weekend in a 3-0 home win for her side against Sevilla, was dedicated to the first year anniversary of her arrival at the Primera Iberdrola club, megasportsarena.com reports.
In the wake of netting her 15th league goal of the season on Saturday, Oshoala admitted she was excited getting the better of her Nigerian counterpart, Uchenna Kanu, who got her debut for Sevilla as a 62nd minute substitute, but it was the Barca that had the last laugh.
‘Super Zee’ made hay in the 55th minute of the encounter, to make it 2-0 in favour of Barca, after Alexia Putellas put The Catalans up 1-0 up in the 49th minute while Patricia Guijarro made it 3-0 on 73 minutes.
It was Oshoala’s 17th game of the season, and she was equally elated that it came just under a year after she scored on her debut for Barcelona Femení, while still on loan from Dalian Quanjian of China, who eventually sold the four-time African Women Footballer of The Year to the Spanish side att he end of the past campaign.
Interestingly, Oshoal’s first goal for Barca came in her very first match with the team, as he notched in their fourth goal in a win 4-0 away to Rayo Vallecano in a Primera División game on February 10, when she entered the game as a 62nd substitute for Alexia Putellas.
Back then, it took her just 15 seconds to hit bull’s eye, as she raced speedily into Vallecano’s box and connected a long ball before finishing past the onrushing goalkeeper, but her effort this past Saturday was slightly different, as she rose high to hit home a sizzling header.
Oshoala took to social media to celebrate her feat, while also thanking her teammates for the roles they played in ensuring she got victory on her anniversary in the team, for which she stated: “Higher than the goalie ….glad to be on the score sheet again and of course great team work and happy 1 year anniversary to me and my cules family @fcbfemeni.”
Dramatically, Spain’s men’s top-flight league body, LaLiga Sntander also hailed Oshoala, after she scored her 15th goal in 17 league appearances for Barcelona Ladies this season and helped maintain her side’s unbeaten run in the current campaign.
