Ese Brume Wins, Sets Commonwealth Games Record in Long Jump

0

Ese Brume has won gold for Team Nigeria in the women’s long jump at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Megasportsarena.com reports.

The world championships silver medalist set a new Games Record of seven metres in her last attempt, after starting the final with no jump.

Brume however bounced back with a 6.99m jump to take the lead and set a new Games Record in the process.

She added 6.99m and 6.96m in her subsequent jumps but none of her opponents could match or surpass her thereby securing gold with a jump to spare.

Brume later battered her 6.99 metres by a metre (7.00 metres) in her last jump, for another Games Record, to become only the first woman in the history of the Commonwealth Games to achieve the feat.

Brume is the second Nigerian woman to win the long jump gold medal after Modupe Oshikoya did in 1974.
