Former Guingamp of France striker, Desire Oparanozie has disclosed that she would be ready to return and play in the domestic Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL) anytime in the near future, or even end her career back in the competition that produced her, megasportsarena.com reports.
Oparanozie had previously starred for Bayelsa Queens of Yenegoa and Delta Queens of Asaba, the last of which she won two titles before making her move to Europe in 2011, and the Nigerian women’s national team, Super Falcons’ former captain says she is open to playing in the league once again, especially as she would love to contribute n further development of the sector.
She reiterated during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that since she was produced by the NWFL, she feels duty bound adding something to creating further awareness and followership for the championship, which she admits would be easier done by getting fully involved with any club that is ready to have her in their team.
However, the dangling striker, who captained Nigeria to the FIFA Women’s World Cup round of 16 for the first time in 20 years, which the Falcons achieved last summer in France, appealed for improved support to the national team and made a passionate call for the provision of better facilities for the domestic league for ladies.
Oparanozie reasoned: “It is the Nigerian league that produced me, so I should be able to play there again. After playing in Europe and elsewhere, we can talk about coming back home to add to the league’s development. That is something I could decide to do, sometime in the future.
“If there is need to come back to Nigeria to play in the women’s league, I will play. Nigeria’s league is tough and competitive, but the only issue is inadequate facilities. I started my football career in Nigerian league, so coming back home will not be a big deal for me.”
