Racing Genk of Belgium in-form attacker, Paul Ebere Onuachu has received a vote of confidence to keep scoring goals and rain them anywhere he finds himself, even in the English Premier League, as his ability in front of an opponents’ net is top notch, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is the stunning verdict coming from Genk’s sports director, Dimitri de Condé, who admitted that Onuachu is currently attracting frenetic transfer interest from far and wide, but buttressed the fact that his team will hope to keep a hold on the Super Eagles’ rookie beyond this summer.
The Genk top shot conceded that a big scramble is already on for Onuachu among some of Europe’s top clubs, especially after the former FC Midtjylland of Denmark hitman took his goals haul for the season to 22 in midweek and stayed top of the Belgian league’s top scorers’ chart, thereby further raising doubt about him staying in the summer.
Nonetheless, that reality has already dawned on everyone at Genk, as Onuachu has continued to attract attention on the back of his burst of goals in the Jupiler Pro League, with the sports director even going on to reveal how Liverpool of England coach, Jurgen Klopp reeled lyrical about the giant striker after their clash last year in the UEFA Champions League.
Onyekuru Opens Weekend’s Scoring For Nigrian Players Across Europe
Galatasaray of Turkey returnee, Henry Onyekuru showed the way for all Nigerian players across urope, as he opened the weekend’s floodgate of goals with a brace in his first match back with the Istanbul-based side.
The accolades from de Condé came after Onuachu netted his 22nd goal of the season as Genk piled on pressure on leaders and champions Club Brugge with a 3-2 win against Zulte-Waregem.
The product of Aspire Football Academy opened scoring for the home team in first half stoppage time, before he doubled their advantage seven minutes after the restart.
Onuachu has now more than doubled his tally of last season and is six goals clear of his closest rival, while Genk are now nine points behind table toppers Club Brugge after 24 matches, and de Condé believes the in-form hitman has more to offer.
Condé told HLN: “Paul Onuachu will score everywhere. Also in the Premier League. He will even be on the list of top clubs, provided that they shop for his type of striker to complement their squad.
“In the Champions League he played strong against Liverpool last year, who have a fantastic defence. That was his reference game. Even Jürgen Klopp said afterwards that they were having a hard time with Paul.
“He’s 27. He’s a top scorer. It’s not a goal in itself to sell him on. But if he continues to perform like this … Of course, we will do everything we can to keep him. But there will be a lot of interest.”
In the aftermath of this declaration by Condé, the lanky Onuachu added in response that he owes his haul of goals to team work, based on immense support from his colleagues and the coach’s tactics, as he is not a dribbler; even as he solicited more support to help him continue excelling in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
He declared as much after netting a brace in his side’s 3-2 win against visiting Zulte-Waregem on Wednesday and, though he celebrated his second of the night with a somersault, Onuachu later revealed that he stepped down on such theatrics because it caused him discomfort in the back.
Onuachu declared: “Scoring is my job. I realise better than anyone that I am not a player who will dribble a few players myself … I need my teammates to score.
“With that first goal Ito does a fantastic job with that heel. Munoz came over again. That boy is crazy, he keeps going. As a striker I just had to be there.
“At the corner of the second goal I faced a very big , strong boy. So I had to think quickly to get rid of him. I did not do that on strength, but by quickly changing direction.”
