Watford of England midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo may miss next year’s Afirca Cup of Nations, with a stall to his season for club and country, as information out of Vicarage Road indicate that he will be out with injury for five months, megasportsarena.com reports.
This comes in the wake of last weekend’s English Premier League fixture, in which the former Warri Wolves of Delta State, Feirense of Portugal, Getafe of Spain, Galatasaray of Turkey and Stoke City of England ace bowed out early against Newcastle United.
The 25-year-old battling midfielder, who is on loan from Stoke, sustained the injury towards the end of The Hornets’ 1-1 draw against The Magpies.
This means Etebo will miss at least 17 English top-flight fixtures for Watford – starting with Saturday’s showdown at Leeds United as well as the Super Eagles’ upcoming matches in the World Cup qualifiers.
He may also not be ready to be part of Gernot Rohr’s squad to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, when the Eagles will aim to clinch the continental football showpiece for the fourth time.
Earlier on Thursday, the combative midfielder was not included in Rohr’s 23-player list of invitees for the World Cup qualifiers against Central African Republic.
Etebo was evaluated by the club’s medical staff following his withdrawal, with the length of his absence confirmed by Watford also on Thursday.
The confirmation revealed that Etebo will miss up to five months of action, as he was diagnosed to have copped a torn quad muscle injury.
Watford stated: “Midfielder Peter Etebo tore a quad muscle towards the end of the Newcastle United game last weekend and is expected to be out for between four to five months.”
