Sports minister, Sunday Akinlabi Dare is leading the crusade for a revival and improvement of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), as he says the domestic championship must not be allowed to die or fade in quality, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speaking ahead of this Sunday’s eventual kick-off for the delayed new season, Dare revealed that he is already putting heads together with top officials, key personalities and stakeholders, with a view towards marshalling ideas to make the league better than ever.
He admitted that financial difficulties are the biggest issues bogging the NPFL and affecting smooth running of the season, but stressed that those loopholes would be plugged once all hands are on deck and each stakeholder comes out with progressive ideas to make things work.
The former journalist, editor, telecommunications expert and information technology facilitator added that only concerted efforts from everyone affected by the league would be able to ensure the country overcomes recent hurdles affecting smooth running of the season, which he believes will turn out to be better than ever this season, once all stakeholders come together as one.
Dare stressed: “The league will not be allowed to die. We will work with every stakeholder to get it right; and we will get it right. We know it involves a lot of money, and the financial situation is difficult at the moment, which is why we all have to come together to make it work. The situation is tight, but we have to work with what we have to get what we need.”
