Reality may have set in for the president of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick, who has now declared that Nigeria may not be hosting the 10th Edition of the FIFA U-20 Women World Cup after all.
Although he informed that the NFF and the Sport Ministry has been interfacing with FIFA, and the governing body wants to ensure that Nigeria gets the hosting right but it’s pretty difficult.
“In all honesty , it will be very difficult for the facts that we are having funding and infrastructural challenges , if for example , if we have eight training centers today , FIFA would have pronounced us ready . But in terms of Medicals and Security, we are ready but a reality check on the infrastructure shows we are not.”
World Soccer governing body, FIFA didn’t reckon with Nigeria when they rolled out a list of countries that will host any of their competitions in the next three years.
FIFA, however, still has Nigeria on their as potential hosts of the competition.
“The 2020 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be the 10th edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup…is expected to be hosted by Nigeria. Should it happen, it will also be the first FIFA women’s tournament held in Africa.”
