Reading of England’s Nigerian-born fast-rising midfielder, Michael Olise has received another huge round of applause from the club’s coach, Veljko Paunovic, following his sterling efforts in Saturday’s victory for their team, megasportsarena.com reports.
The Reading gaffer tagged Olise ‘super talented,’ after the former Ajax Amsterdam of Holland youth team player spearheaded his side’s 2-0 victory over 10-man Nottingham Forest during Saturday’s encounter in the English Championship.
Forest were numerically depleted early in the first half when one of the midfielders, Ryan Yates handled the ball on the goal line and was sent off, after which Reading’s top scorer, Lucas Joao slotted in the resultant penalty for his 14th goal of the season.
Michael Morrison then nodded home eight minutes into the second half, as Reading eased to a fourth successive match without defeat, while 18-year-old France youth international, Olise got credit for the roles he played in both goals, with a free-kick delivery that led to the penalty and then a corner for their second of the evening.
Olise’s performance helped Reading stretch their unbeaten run in the Championship this term to four games on a day that home fans were allowed back into their famed Madejski Stadium, and the hosts took only 16 minutes on the clock to open scoring and eventually cruise to victory.
Forest did their best in difficult circumstances but rarely looked like ending their goal drought as Reading strolled to a comfortable three points, even as Samba saved well from Olise early in the second period but, in the 53rd minute, the hosts doubled their advantage when Morrison rose to nod home his second goal of the campaign.
Paunovic admitted he was in awe of Olise’s contributions on a day he was also glad to see Reading’s home fans back at the stadium for the first time in nine months and 2,000 of them cheered the squad to victory, after which the coach declared: “Michael is super talented.
“He had a very good game. When the team plays well, individuals will pop up and show their talent. We acknowledge Michael’s talent but he also has to keep learning. He still needs to grow. He still has things that he can implement in the future and be an even better player.
“This is why I encourage him not to get content with what he is right now but to go on and show what he can be. We all see huge potential in him. It’s not good for him to think that he has it done it, he must stay humble and focused.
“Everyone else had solid performances, everyone else had their moments. I’m feeling great – for winning and having the fans back; and for playing good football and making everyone remember this day as a special moment. Getting a win with such a solid performance is a fantastic event for today. I’m very happy because our team have been recovering their form.
“We are now consolidating and are having to due to physical issues that some players are having to deal with. The penalty definitely changed the game in our favour but we had a few more opportunities that we should have converted. We lost our focus a bit but we addressed that at half-time and fixed it.”
