Southampton of England’s Nigerian-born striker, Michael Obafemi has qualified for the quarter-finals of the virtual football competition tagged e-Premier League, which is aimed at keeping footballers and fans excited during the suspension of all action on account of coronavirus, megasportsarena.com reports.
While Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi and Bournemouth’s Phillip Chinedu Billing failed to make it to the same stage in the first installment of the same competition, Obafemi, who is an Ireland youth international, scaled all odds to reach the last eight.
Obafemi will now take on Leicester’s James Maddison, who blasted his way into the last eight with two victories; having kicked off proceedings with an 8-1 win in his rearranged first-round match with Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson.
Wilson was no match for Maddison, as the former Norwich midfielder was 4-0 up at the interval courtesy of a hat-trick from Kelechi Iheanacho and a sublime finish from his own character, while Jamie Vardy got in on the act late on after further strikes from Iheanacho and Maddison before Wilson grabbed a late consolation through Joshua King.
On the other hand, Obafemi overcame Tony Bellew with a 7-0 victory over the ex-boxer Tony Bellew, who was representing his beloved Everton, but he was no match for the Nigerian-born attacker, who took just 17 minutes of the FIFA 20 match to complete a hat-trick with himself
Obafemi scored a remarkable five goals with his in-game player as Southampton booked their place in the last eight with the defeat of Bellew, with The Saints going into the break 5-0 up over ‘The Bomber’ and, though the former WBC cruiserweight champion improved in the second period, Obafemi and Danny Ings added to the winning side’s goals tally.
