Girondins-Bordeaux of France striker, Josh Maja has enthused that the hat-trick he scored for his side on Tuesday has boosted his confidence heading into the top-billing clash with Olympique Marseille on Sunday in the French Ligue 1, megasportsarena.com reports.
Maja made history in by becoming only the fourth Nigerian player to net three goals in a single match in the French top-flight and now the youngster to do so, as he continued his scoring form from the previous weekend to help Bordeaux to a stunning 6-0 win over Nimes.
In the wake of his performance at Matmut Atlantique, many rave reviews continue trailing the 20-year-old former Sunderland of England top scorer and one-cap Super Eagles’ invitee, who opened scoring for Le Girondins in the 24th minute with a quality finish, after which he got his brace with another sublime finish 13 minutes later, then sealed his heroics in the 53rd minute.
It means Maja has now scored five goals from 14 appearances in the French Ligue 1 so far this season and the youngster, who had earlier also scored in Bordeaux’s 1-1 draw against Reims at the weekend, said he is already thinking about this weekend’s clash with Marseille.
It will be tango between the Ligue 1’s second placed team of the moment and his side, who stand third on the log, ahead of which the lad, who entered the record books as the youngest Nigerian player to net a treble in Ligue 1, aged 20 years, 11 months and 6 days, said he wants to achieve a lot more with the club he joined last summer from The Black Cats.
While admitting he was happy to score a hat-trick for the first time in his career, Maja said he will only get to know the real import of his achievement after he speaks with his family, then stressed that the team has to continue doing well, in order to keep shooting up the table.
Maja told Canal+ Television: “I’m very happy to get my first hat-trick for Bordeaux and in my career. I feel good. It is an amazing feeling, I can’t really describe it. I think once I speak to my family and I realize what I have done I will be even more happy.
“Of course, it’s a great night for the team. It’s three points and we performed very well and are going to keep working and go into the next game with confidence.”
