Fulham of England winger, Ademola Lookman enacted yet another stunning performance and netted a remarkable goal for The Cottagers, on a day his former club, Everton stole all headlines in the English Premier League by winning away to their local rivals, Liverpool, with Alex Iwobi part of the glee at Anfield.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, while Iwobi and his pals take delight in dumping the ‘old enemy’ at their backyard for the first time in 11 years, the big deal for Lookman was in helping Fulham snatch victory that gave their survival hopes a huge boost with a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United.
After a lacklustre first half, Lookman blasted Scott Parker’s side to all three points in the 61st minute, deepening Sheffield United’s plight in the process and the victory sees Fulham move to within three points of safety. Parker’s men now have 17th-placed Newcastle, who face Manchester United on Sunday evening, firmly in their sights.
On an evening Fulham had four Nigerian players on from the first blast of the whistle at Craven Cottage, Sheffield United’s English Premier League status took another battering, as Chris Wilder’s side remain 14 points from safety, rooted to the bottom of the table.
Lookman ended as man of the match with eight game points out of ten, Ola Aina and Tosin Adarabioyo got seven each, while Josh Maja gained six, as The Cottagers made the best of home advantage to carry the day.
Such was the case on Merseyside as well, with Iwobi on from the bench, as The Toffees ended their 24-game winless run at Anfield with a deserved 2-0 win over Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s men slipped to a fourth straight home defeat.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men came into the game having won just one of the last 28 Premier League meetings with their great rivals but made the perfect start when Richarlison raced through to finish past Alisson after just three minutes.
Liverpool lacked urgency in their play and their challenge became harder when Jordan Henderson limped off with a groin injury, further worsening their problems at centre-half.
Everton, determined in the tackle and brave with the ball, sensed weakness when sending on Dominic Calvert-Lewin from the bench to join Richarlison in attack and it was a gamble that paid off when the England striker won a controversial penalty off Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Few minutes after Iwobi entered the fray, Sigurdsson rolled home from the spot in the 83rd minute to seal Everton’s first win against Liverpool since 2010 and their first at Anfield since 1999.
On the other hand, Liverpool equal a club record of four successive home league defeats set in in 1923 and Everton are now level on points with the Reds in the table having played a game fewer.
Iwobi’s side have now won eight of their 12 away league games this season (D2 L2); only in 2008-09 have they won more on the road in a Premier League campaign (nine).
