Wigan Athletic of England defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun is still basking in the euphoria of his team’s astonishing 8-0 victory over Hull City in the English Championship, and admitted he really cherished being part of The Latics’ historic victory at home, megasportsarena.com reports.
Balogun, who only earlier this month turned his initial loan contract at DW Stadium into a full transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion, exuded sheer delight for the role he played in helping his side whip The Tigers in Tuesday’s encounter and admitted it was a huge morale booster to his hopes of excelling with the club.
Buoyed by Kieran Dowell’s hat-trick plus a brace from Kieffer Moore, Balogun and his pals got their biggest league win ever, as they responded to their looming 12-point penalty for economic instability and took the anger of financial downturns out on their fellow-relegation candidates.
While Hull matched their previous worst league result ever, which came against Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1911, Balogun’s side scored seven times in the first half to move out of the bottom three on goal difference at The Tigers’ expense, few hours after the club entered administration.
Balogun, who was featuring in his ninth game since his loan arrival Brighton, saw 78 minutes of action before he was replaced by Alex Dobre, few days after the 32-year-old Germany-born ace defender recalled his initial trouble when Wigan with an armistice for his troubles, after he fell out of favour with The Seagulls at American Annex Stadium.
He disclosed back then that he tried to find a solution to his struggles and was glad with the timely arrival of the offer to join Wigan on loan; which lifted his spirit and renewed confidence in himself, as he was glad to catch the attention of an English Championship side – though he felt fit and good enough to play in the EPL.
Now that things are looking up once again for him, the former Fortuna Düsseldorf, Darmstadt, Werder Bremen and SV Mainz of Germany stopper is reeling from his club’s mammoth victory on Tuesday, after which he took to his social media handle to laud his side’s character, adding that he remains proud of Wigan, whether they retain their English Championship status or not.
Balogun posted: “Back with a bang 💥 whatever happens: I’m proud & grateful to be part of THIS team at that time! The character of the team is simply amazing & I wouldn’t want to miss it! This win is for everybody working for, supporting and loving this club! Up the f****** Tics 🔵⚪️.”
