Leicester City of England attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho has confessed that he is holding a huge dream of winning the English FA Cup this season with The Foxes, even as he aims to keep scoring for The Foxes all the way to the trophy, megasportsarena.com reports.
After netting again in midweek to take his side into the quarter-finals at the expense of Brighton & Hove Albion, Iheanacho admitted he is delight with his personal impact for the 2016 English Premier League champions, but stressed that his biggest dream is to help the side lift the FA Cup this season.
Iheanacho, who netted his latest Cup goal on the same night his compatriot, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi made his comeback in this game, after he was sidelined by a hamstring complaint, said he was happy to score the winner that took Leicester past Brighton.
Iheanacho, who is one of the most prolific scorers in the FA Cup, came off the bench to score via a header with virtually the last kick of Wednesday’s fixture, following which the draw placed his side and Alex Iwobi’s Everton against teams from Manchester in the last-eight.
Thursday’s draw pooled Iwobi’s Everton at home against the current English Premier League leaders, Manchester City at Goodison Park, while Leicester City’s Ndidi and Iheanacho will host Manchester United at King Power Stadium.
Iwobi’s Everton reached the last eight after overcome a nine-goal thriller against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, with Bernard’s extra-time winner giving them a 5-4 victory over Jose Mourinho’s side.
Dramatically, Man City made English football history by breaking the record for 15 consecutive wins in all competitions by a top-flight team as they beat Swansea 3-1 in the fifth round on Wednesday.
On the same night, Iheanacho got a goal for The Foxes en route to the new round, Iwobi was at the centre of one of the highlights during his side’s epic victory over Tottenham, as he scaled the scare of video assistant referee on a foul demand by the opponents.
Iwobi ended up getting a game rating of six over ten for his performance, as Everton won a nine-goal FA Cup classic against Spurs, to reach the quarter-final with a thrilling and chaotic 5-4 extra-time victory.
The former Arsenal star and his pals at Everton are yet to face City this season after the original league fixture on December 23 was postponed following a coronavirus outbreak in The Citizens’ squad and the rearranged match will take place on February 17.
Iheanacho and Ndidi’s Leicester and United met in the EPL on Boxing Day last year, when Axel Tuanzebe’s 85th-minute own goal earned a point for The Foxes in a 2-2 draw at King Power Stadium.
On the other hand, Chelsea’s Nigerian-born striker, Tammy Abraham will be up against less formidable opposition, as The Blues’ reward for Thursday’s 1-0 win at Barnsley is a home tie against the EPL bottom side Sheffield United.
Abraham’s fourth FA Cup goal of the season helped Chelsea edge past their unexpectedly impressive lower division opponents, and The Blues were able to win only 1-0 to set up a quarter-final tie against Sheffield United.
Before Thursday’s feat, Abraham had scored a hat-trick against Luton Town in the fourth round – in what proved to be Frank Lampard’s final game in charge – and found the net again with a close-range finish in the 64th minute, which proved to be Chelsea’s only shot on target.
Dominic Solanke, Arnaud Danjuma and Philip Chinedu Billing’s English Championship side, Bournemouth, who are currently looking for a new coach, will host their south coast neighbours, Southampton, who have Nathan Tella and Michael Obafemi in heir squad.
This means there will be strong Nigerian presence when the quarter-finals of world football’s oldest club competition take place on the weekend of March 20 to 21, but Iheanacho, who first played for Manchester City before joining Leicester, is already dreaming of going all the way to the trophy for the first time in his career.
Iheanacho stated: “Everybody was smiling in the dressing room that I saved them from the cold. It was too cold, freezing, everybody wanted to get home so I am glad I could get the winner in 90 minutes.
“We’re now looking forward to the next round. It will be a dream most especially for the fans for us to win the Cup.”
