Nigerian-born world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua is moving closer to reality in the much-talked about unification showdown with fellow-Brit, Tyson ‘Gypsy king’ Fury, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is the cheering revelation from Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, as the MatchRoom boss disclosed emphatically that the world heavyweight title showdown between his ward and Fury could be announced in the next two weeks.
Hearn conceded that a lot of time has been spent in putting together the much-expected high-profile unification fight between Joshua, who holds the World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Organisation (WBO) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) belts, while Fury is the World Boxing Council (WBC) champion.
Fight purists will now be delighted to learn that progress is being made in putting together the highly-anticipated fight between both British boxers, but Hearn added that the venue could eventually be moved out of England, with Saudi Arabia and United States among likely hosts.
Hearn further told Matchroom Boxing’s YouTube channel: “We’re back and forward with draft contracts. We’ve sent a draft contract; they’ve sent some minor changes nothing too big, so again we’re moving in the right direction.
“I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve said ‘the next two weeks’ but the next two weeks we hope for an official announcement and then we go out and decide where this thing will take place.
“We’ve had massive offers from the Middle East. We’re talking to Qatar, we’re talking to Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, we’re talking to Singapore, we’re talking to China, we’re talking to America.
“A couple of wildcards in there as well. But first of all I want to make sure the deal is in place then we can go out there and talk to these people sensibly and with confidence this fight is happening, and like I said we’re a couple of weeks away.”
