Girondins-Bordeaux of France striker, Josh Maja could become the next Nigerian player to join Glasgow Rangers of Scotland in recent time, as his name is being bandied round as a very plausible replacement for outgoing Colombian ace, Alfredo Morales.
While Morales has been lined up to replace Maja’s compatriot, Victor Osimhen at Lille Metropole of France, the Bordeaux hitman could be on hys way to joining Joe Aribo, Leon Aderemi Balogun Calvin Bassey and Malcolm Ebiowei at Ewood Park.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that Rangers are set to firm up their interest in Maja by formally opening transfer talks with him this week, as The Gers’ boss, Steven Gerrard is in the market for a striker to replace Morelos, while experienced icon, Jermain Defoe is on the sidelines due to injury.
He is now keen on snatching 21-year-old Maja, who struck eight goals and provided three assists in 24 matches over the course of the past campaign, despite his limited playing opportunities; yet his switch to Glasgow could be boosted by the fact that his agent, Emeka Obasi also sealed the deals that took Aribo and Sheyi Ojo to Rangers last summer and Ebiowei in February 2020.
Incidentally, the 54-time Scottish Premiership champions recently bolstered their squad with the signing of Leon Aderemi Balogun, just a week before the new season kicks off this Saturday, with The Gers up against Aberdeen.
Heading into this weekend’s encounter, Rangers’ boss, Steven Gerrard will be counting a lot on Balogun, who has been capped 32 times by Nigeria and played in all three of the Super Eagles’ matches at the 2018 World Cup, after which he was in their bronze-winning squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
