Everton of England midfielder, Alex Iwobi is relishing an evening of double bliss, as he got to play the entire duration of his side’s English Premier League win away to Norwich City, and he is happy that he played a huge part in helping them return home with maximum point, but former Super Eagles’ attacker, Odion Jude Ighalo got only 10 minutes on the pitch with Manchester United.
Iwobi was ecstatic all the way, as he contributed immensely in helping The Toffees win on the road, but Ighalo only saw the last ten minutes of United’s 3-0 spanking of Sheffield United at Old Trafford, as The Red Devils closed the gap on Chelsea to two points, with French star, Anthony Martial scoring all three goals for the hosts.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that it means Ighalo is yet to start any match in the English Premier League since joining United on loan from Shanghai Shenhua of China in January, and got an extension in May, as he was not in The Red Devils’ first 11 for the sixth consecutive game.
Ighalo, though, got off United’s bench to replace their hat-trick hero in the 80th minute, after the France international striker opened scoring after six minutes, then tapped home to make it 2-0 just before half-time and earned his treble with a smart finish in the 74th minute.
Also on Wednesday in the EPL, former Chelsea and Liverpool striker, Dominic Solanke played the last 24 minutes for Bournemouth, while his fellow-Nigerian-born teammate, Phil Chinedu Billing was replaced four minutes into the second half of their game at Molineux Stadium.
Solanke and Billing were away to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the encounter that turned out to be tight from beginning till end, as a solitary effort from Raul Jimenez’s effort on the hour was enough for the hosts to get victory courtesy a lone goal.
It means Nigeria’s best performer in the line-up of midweek games in England’s top-flight was Iwobi, who was in action for 90 minutes in his fourth start under Everton’s Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti and had a good game on the evening at Carrow Road.
The Eagles’ playmaker was especially splendid in the second half of the encounter, in which a 55th minute header by Michael Keane was just enough to give Everton all three points in a 1-0 win away to the EPL’s bottom placed team.
While the former Arsenal midfielder starred all evening long for the winning side, the hosts had Nigerian-born Republic of Ireland under-21 international forward, Adam Idah enter the match as a 79th minute substitute, but Everton youngster, Dennis Adeniran was not dressed for the game, which had Iwobi grinning from ear-to-ear at the end of the final whistle by the referee .
Iwobi took to social media after the game as he celebrated a rare evening of full duration outing with the Merseyside’s and he equally hailed his teammates for their sterling performance in the encounter, for which he posted: “That’s My Dawg 🤜🏽🤛🏻 +3 We Move 🙏🏾 #UpTheToffees.”
