Roda JC Kerkrade of Holland striker, Ike Ugbo is bound to cost a princely £2.5m summer transfer fee for either Queens Park Rangers or Coventry City, who are both interested in buying the in-form Nigerian-born attacker, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although the initial free for Ugbo had been 400,000 Euros, his parent club, Chelsea of England look set to reap big from interest coming his way from QPR in the English Championship and League One table toppers, Coventry, with both sides said to be keenly interested in signing him during the upcoming summer transfer window.
A report by The Sun says the 21-year-old Ugbo, who has twinkled during his recent loan spell at Kerkrade, is on QPR’s wish-list in a £2.5m swoop, following popping feats he pulled off while playing in the Dutch second-tier league, until the season was cancelled last month due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
His run of 13 goals and three assists in 29 games left many observers hailing Ugbo’s massive transformation and improvements, such that an additional report by London Evening Standard has disclosed that QPR are preparing a bid for him, even as a rival link has also come his way from Coventry, with both clubs setting their eyes fully on the vastly-improved lad.
The 21-year-old lad, who has been widely regarded as one of the most exciting prospects that have been produced at Chelsea’s academy in recent years, will soon enter the final 12 months of his current contract with The Blues, ahead of which QPR are ready to sign him for £2.5m, though he is surprisingly valued at only 400,000 euros by Transfermarkt.
With his loan deal at Roda set to officially end next month, and he will be back at Chelsea ahead of next season, Ugbo’s chances of regular playing time in the main team are very doubtful, as he will be far below the pecking order of senior strikers in The Blues and his age is now beyond the youth side, a huge dilemma is hanging over how he will consolidate on his most successful loan spell so far in his budding career, considering his appearances and goals scored with Roda.
It is now left to be seen what the immediate future holds for Ugbo, who has been at Chelsea since he was nine years old, as his contract at Stamford Bridge ends next summer, with several links now popping up for the England former youth international, who has previously spent time on loan at Barnsley, MK Dons and Scunthorpe United.
