Leicester City of England midfielder, Kelechi Iheanacho continues receiving plaudits for his goal and assist for The Foxes last weekend in the English Premier League, with former Liverpool star and England ex-international, Michael Owen now adding his voice to the rave reviews, megasportsarena.com reports.
After seeing previously out of favour Iheanacho score his second goal in as many EPL fixtures, Owen said he was excited with the youngster’s performance, which he said was made possible by the former Manchester City lad’s ability to accelerate quickly on and off the ball.
Owen was reeling lyrical for Iheanacho, after the Super Eagles reject scored and provided an assist to help Leicester thrash their hosts, Aston Villa 4-1, as the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist and most valuable player continued making a claim for first-team opportunities in subsequent matches, giving The Foxes’ manager, Brendan Rodgers something to think about.
With Iheanacho now having scored in all four games he has played this season, two of which were earlier in the Carabao Cup, the once-feared midfielder-cum-attacker appears back to his lethal best, and Owen added that he was impressed with the lad’s determination and speed.
Owen said: “He deserved his goal because he worked really hard as well off the ball. He was a real thorn, just look at his movement before we talk about it. He sets off early (and) he gets that half a yard early.
“Normally, strikers will wait, wait and wait until the trigger is about to be pulled and then they will just make a last-minute dash across. (But) he moves earlier and he managed to get in a really dangerous area in that front post. You can see he doesn’t get the first touch but he’s in a real dangerous position to get the second touch.”
