Manchester United of England striker, Odion Jude Ighalo stands to lose up to £75m because of his decision to stay put with The Red Devils, as latest information indicates that he has been hit with another pay cut by his parent club, Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, megasportsarena.com reports.
Shenhua have categorically told the former Prime FC of Osogbo, Julius Berger FC of Lagos, Lyn Oslo of Norway, Udinese of Italy, Granada of Spain, Watford of England and Changchun Yatai of China star what he stands to lose, after he opted to stay with The Red Devils, as the Chinese Super League have informed him they would not be able to pay his wages in full.
With the 30-year-old former Super Eagles’ striker seeking a longer spell in Manchester, after his loan deal from Shenhua expires on Monday, the Shanghai-based club pointed out that he will have to get a reduction in his £400,000-a-week wages, since they cannot have him back for the start of the new campaign in the CSL.
Shanghai have already offered him a three-year extension running till 2024, but an updated report by Daily Star says the Chinese club’s chairman, Wu Xiaohui has told Ighalo he will now get only £380,000-a-week for deciding to stat at United.
It means, while Ighalo will be allowed to stay at United until January, his take-home in a the joint-payment from Shenhua would now be worth less than £400,000-a-week, but the striker is not worried about the cut, as he is living out his dream playing for The Red Devils.
He is now holding firmly to great expectations of a deal being ironed out between both clubs, as they are in talks over the extension and must come up with a solution before Monday, amidst additional information that international travel restrictions in China will even prevent him from returning until October.
Another report out of Queensland indicated that the striker will now risk losing a huge financial outlay due to his commitment to United, and The Daily Star adds: “Ighalo is willing to risk a new £75m contract with Shanghai Shenhua to remain with United for the rest of the season.
“Ighalo joined United on a short-term loan in January and has proved a huge success after scoring four times in eight appearances. His deal expires this weekend and he is wanted back in China, where Shenhua are gearing up for the start of the new season next month, after the start date in March was put back due to Covid-19.
“But Ighalo remains desperate to see out the Premier League campaign with United, who are keen to retain his services so he can provide attacking cover for Marcus Rashford. Talks between both clubs are ongoing and Ighalo has made a personal plea to Shenhua bosses to allow him to stay with United.
“Ighalo, 30, has been offered a new three-year deal worth a staggering £480,000-a-week, but Shenhua chairman Wu Xiaohui has made it clear these terms will be reviewed unless he gets the commitment he wants from the Nigerian international.
“The stand-off needs to be resolved in the next 48 hours, with Ighalo willing to jeopardise his bumper new deal in order to see out the campaign with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.”
