Nigerian players were back in the hunt for goal sat the start of this week, with Odion Jude Ighalo leading the way in Saudi Arabia, while Bright Osayi-Samuel was on song in Turkey and Terem Moffi made hay in France.
Also with a goal in Turkey was Anthony Nwakaeme, while Paul Ebere Onuachu hit a different class of headlines in Belgium and Chidera juke emerged man of the match in his latest outing for CSKA Moscow of Russia.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Ighalo shot his way top of the goal scorers’ chart in Saudi Arabia scoring twice for Al-Shabab in a 2-0 win over Al-Hazm.
Ighalo opened scoring in the third minute off an assist from Paulinho, after which he then went on to seal the victory for his team in the 87th minute.
Ighalo has now scored four goals in as many league games and the former Super Eagles’ hitman tops the Saudi league’s scorers’ chart alongside Cameroonian striker, Leandre Kana.
In Turkey, Osayi-Samuel opened scoring for Fenerbahçe as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Kayode Olarewaju’s Sivasspor.
Osayi-Samuel, who was born in Nigeria but holds a British passport, put Fenerbahçe ahead in the 23rd minute against their visitors, who had to fight back to hold the home team.
It looked like The Yellow Canaries would carry the day with their opening goal from the former ueens Park Rangers of England winger, who joined the Istanbul-based Turkish Super Lig side in January.
The stunning effort from Osayi-Samuel, whose only other goal in the Lig came in the second half of last season, still helped Fenerbahçe stay second on the table with 10 points from four matches.
Also in Turkey on Sunday, Nwakaeme continued his great scoring form in Turkey after he scored his fourth goal in as many games for Trabzonspor.
Galatasaray were leading 2-1 against their hosts, before Nwakaeme drew his team level in the 62nd minute and helped his side stay second on the table with 10 points after four matches.
The 32-year-old forward, who netted nine goals for Trabzonspor last season, is due a new and improved contract by the Trabzon-based club.
In France, Moffi was the match winner for FC Lorient and ended up as Man of the Match, as he also notched an assist in his club’s 2-1 home win over Ligue 1 champions, Lille Metrpole.
He has again proved to be the nemesis for the top clubs after he slayed the likes of PSG, Monaco and Olympique Marseille last season.
The former Golden Eaglets’ invitee from Calabar has now scored two goals and provided as many assists to carry on from last season, when he fired 15 goals in all competitions.
In Belgium, Onuachu was on course to grabbing the match winner before Union Saint-Gilloise fought back to level with Racing Genk in stoppage time.
Onuachu scored his third goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute, but the visitors Union fought back to draw level five minutes into added time.
Genk will be banking on more goals from Onuachu, who netted 35 goals in all competitions, as they are currently fifth with 11 points.
In Russia, Ejuke was the official man of the match when CSKA played 2-2 away to Arsenal Tula and the Russian Army-owned club are now sixth on the table with 10 points from seven matches.
Ejuke deservedly got the award, as he tormented the opposing defenders all evening long and the former SC Heerenveen of Netherlands star is now gradually justifying the 12 million Euros that CSKA paid for his transfer last season.
