Wycombe Wanderers of England duo of Fred Onyedinma and Uche Ikpeazu have both received plaudits for the role they played in helping their club shake Tottenham Hotspur in the English FA Cup and almost caused an upset against the London side, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Spurs eventually pulled through with a ticket into the round of 16, where they will travel to face Everton, following a 4-1 win over Wycombe at Adams Park on Monday night, the impact created by Ikpeazu and Onyedinma was not lost on pundits and analysts.
Among them is Crystal Palace legend Clinton Morrison, who disclosed that he was impressed by the combination play between Onyedinma and Ikpeazu in the build-up to Wycombe’s opening goal during the testy encounter with Tottenham.
Onyedinma and Ikpeazu were named in Wycombe’s starting lineup, while Adebayo Akinfenwa and Dennis Adeniran were on the bench, as their side’s stubborn resistance finally came to an end in the closing minutes, after Spurs’ coach, Jose Mourinho sent on Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Tanguy Ndombèlé
Onyedinma, who earlier scored in the third round win over Preston North End put in a full shift, while Ikpeazu was replaced by Akinfenwa in the 72nd minute, but three late goals, from Harry Winks in the 86th minute and two by Ndombèlé in the 87th and 93rd, gave Mourinho’s north London side a 4-1 victory
That was despite Onyedinma having given The Chairboys a dream lead with a composed finish in the 25th minute, after Uche held the ball superbly, only for Gareth Bale to get Spurs back on level terms on the stroke of half-time, but Morison was left applauding the Nigerian-born lads.
Morrison said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “Fred Onyedinma is a good player! But it’s all about Uche Ikpeazu, he does ever so well. He puts a good ball into the box and that’s what you want, your other striker running in to put it away. Great for Wycombe!”
