Chelsea of England defender, Fikayo Tomori has gained interesting attention from AC Milan of Italy, with a hint that he might end up making the move to The san Siro sometime this month, megasportsaena.com reports.
In contrast with previous reports that he could be on his way to Leeds United, the latest update about Tomori’s future indicates that he has caught the eye of Milan, and The Rossoneri are ready to sign the Nigerian-born England international on loan.
This is a turnaround for Tomori, who had been a regular for Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard in the first half of this season, but he has found opportunities harder to come by this term, and the one-cap England stopper appears ready to leave The Blues on a temporary transfer this month.
Having struggled to get game time this season, the option of leaving on loan is quite appealing to the 23-year-old Tomori, who has only appeared for 44 minutes in the EPL, and was only able to get on as a substitute in the English FA Cup clash with Morecambe last weekend.
Dramatically, though, despite his struggles, Tomori has caught the ye of Milan, even as he had earlier been linked with Newcastle United and Leeds United this summer, while some other clubs in the EPL are also reportedly monitoring his current situation at Stamford Bridge.
While interest from Leeds appears to have thawed, Newcastle are reportedly still interested in signing Tomori, who excelled under Lampard during their time together with Derby County in the lower division, but The Blues’ gaffer now prefers the duo of Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma in central defense so far this season.
Details of the report by FourFourTwo added that Tomori is also attracting interest from Burnley, who are also ready to accord him a loan deal for the second half of the season, but Milan are the only club so far to have made a formal offer for the dark-skinned lad, who has made just four appearances for The Blues this season, and has played just 45 minutes overall so far this term.
An additional report by British newspaper, The Guardian disclosed: “Chelsea are happy to loan centre-back Fikayo Tomori to AC Milan. The young defender has not played many games this season after falling down the pecking order in manager Frank Lampard’s squad.
“Tomori wants to leave on loan to play games in the second half of this season. Milan are a serious option for Tomori, as they want to add a defender in the window.”
That means Tomori is now Milan’s top target and, though he decided against moving on loan to Everton and West Ham United in the summer, Lampard confirmed after the club’s 4-0 FA Cup win over Morecambe that the stopper is now set for a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Lampard told football.london: “The situation with Fikayo is open at the moment. There is a possibility he could be going on loan to get games somewhere else. So, that would have to be the solution for him and the club.
“That was part of my thinking of not starting him. I gave him some minutes at the end but while we were looking at that I wanted to make sure it was the right thing for the club and for him and individually. So that’s why he didn’t start.”
