A former player of Nigerian lower division league aside, FC Ebedei of Shagamu, Michael David (aka Omasaro) has completed plans to offer secondary school students in Lagos State a huge opportunity of gaining admission into university in the United States of America through a talent hunt venture in December, megasportsarena.com reports.
The Edo State-born youngster, who played as a striker during his days with Barrister Churchill Oliseh’s team, before travelling out to join AC Regianna of Italy in 2007, is now the co-founder and president of Angels of The World, a non-profit organization based in Seattle, Washington, USA, under whose banner he will take a scout to assess talented students at the upcoming programme.
He explained that the project is part of his desire to give back to the Nigerian community that produced him, as he was also captain of Surulere-based National Grassroots Dream Team and product of Santana Boys FC of Ojo, Lagos before joining Ebedei, where he got his grooming process as a professional footballer and his eventual breakthrough.
After surviving a scary battle with cancer at his base in the USA, ‘Omasaro’ said he is happy that he is healthy and fit once again, for which he says he has to give thanks to God and lend a hand to charity as a way of confirming his gratitude for surviving the debilitating disease.
With that vision top of his mind, David says he has finalized plans with the higher academic institution he attended in the United States to attend a three-day talent discovery programme in Surulere, Lagos, from which at least two outstanding students will be selected, based on their educational status, intelligence and football skills.
David added in a press release to herald the forthcoming project: “I graduated from UCSB on a football scholarship and today I am an author, ex-professional footballer, speaker, writer, and the Co-Founder/President of an organization with a passion to serve African children and help them develop their God-given talents and discover their essential purpose in life.
“Our mission is to use football as a vehicle to reach children all over Africa, to uplift their visions in life and help them to discover their God-given talents and purpose of existence.
“One of our prime areas of focus is that education holds a very important part in the development of teenagers across the world; which is why we hold academics as a very paramount value in our organization and we want every child in Africa to have access to it. Knowledge Is Power!
“With that in mind and under our purview, I am pleased to inform you that Angels of The World is bringing to Nigeria a couple renowned collegiate soccer coaches from some of the best universities in America to watch secondary school students in Nigeria showcase their football abilities every year.
“Our first mission is this regard will see us bring the coaches to Lagos, Nigeria this December, with the goal of giving at least two or three senior secondary school students the opportunity to attend a University in America, under provisions of a full scholarship.
“To start off the annual partnership with the said American institutions, we are honored to have the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) as the first of our partners that are ready to give two or three SS3 students in Lagos the opportunities of full scholarships in God’s Own Country..
“They will get this golden opportunity to travel to the USA to further their education and football ability on full scholarship basis once they display higher level of football ability and excellent academic quality during the forthcoming three-day talent hunt programme we will organize in Surulere, Lagos.
“Towards making the mission all-encompassing, your youth football club has been selected as one of the few to send your best players (SS3 students) to the programme scheduled for 17th, 18th, and 19th of December 2019 at Abalti Barracks, Surulere, Lagos State. “
