Former Super Eagles’ assistant coach, Fatai Folorunsho Amoo (Arsenal) has described the new contract signed by Franco-German gaffer, Gernot Rohr to continue in charge of the Nigerian national team as a ‘welcome development’ for progress in the squad, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although the former coach of First Ban FC of Lagos, Sunshine Stars of Akure, Shooting Stars of Ibadan and Enyimba of Aba admitted that Nigerian football fans and analysts will hold varying views over the development, his own verdict is that Rohr has made the right decision by accepting the conditions put before him by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
He added during Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM, Lagos that Rohr has done relatively well so far with his previous two contracts, the first of which he signed in 2016, before he got another deal just before the World Cup in Russia.
The soft-spoken tactician and ex-international, however, admonished Rohr not to take the contract extension for granted, but stressed that the former Girondins-Bordeaux defender and manager must ensure he works even harder, in order to justify getting a new deal from the NFF.
Amoo said: “Everyone is welcome to their opinion. We all have different views about the same issue, but my own view is that seeing Gernot Rohr sign another contract is a welcome development. It is now up to him to take up the challenge and try to do better this time.”
