Enyimba of Aba stayed top of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) standings on Saturday, following stimulating 2-1 win over Plateau United of Jos, megasportsarena.com reports.
A major dramatic talking point of the game was how Tosin Omoyele, who moved to The Peoples Elephant from Plateau United, scored both goals that condemned his former teammates to their latest defeat at Enyimba Stadium in Aba.
In what was dubbed a battle of former champions, The Tin City side put up a big fight and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet early from Sunday Anthony’s 25th-minute effort, on for Omoyele to later show his predatory skills with a double strike in the first half to guide Enyimba to victory.
The former Osun United of Osogbo half-albino bundled in the opener in the 27th minute before doubling the advantage with a sumptuous strike moments after, as he twice caught the visitors’ goalkeeper, Chinedu Anozie napping.
A tactical second half substitution by United’s coach, Abdul Maikaba saw the Jos-based side gain some sort of foothold on the game, and they were rewarded with a consolatory goal by Moses Effiong, who got his head onto a free-kick from Ndala and past John Noble in the 76th minute.
Omoyele then took to social media to celebrate his feat, as he posted: “A brace and maximum points against Plateau United will further boost our chances of winning the NPFL as we continue our quest to glory in the league. Thanks everyone for the support so far. #TogetherForVictory #WeAreThe ElephantElephant.”
