Queens Park Rangers of England rave of the moment, Eberechi Eze has found another massive fillip coming his way, as he is now rated only behind Leicester City’s Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi in the current scorecard of Nigerian players plying their trade abroad, but keeps showing top form that could take him to number one before the current season runs its full course, megasportsarena.com reports.
While Ndidi remains the country’s topmost player on the latest cards of Switzerland-based CIES Football Observatory for the world’s best performers in 35 European leagues, Eze has shot into a majestic second position, ahead of Everton’s Alex Iwobi and Stoke City’s Oghenekaro Etebo.
A lot of talk has recently been rolling round Eze, especially with reports about the pressure on him by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Melvin Amaju Pinnick to get him into the national team, Super Eagles, and the coach, Gernot Rohr having being quoted to have stated that the QPR sensation is better than Liverpool loanee, Ovie Ejaria.
Although Rohr denied making such an assertion, the Franco-German gaffer looks sure to bow to pressure from Pinnick and call Eze into his next camp, as the dreadlocks-wearing QPR youngster keeps hitting headlines with his form, assists and goals.
With Eze now ranked only behind Ndidi, who is 66th overall, anyone doubting the lad’s quality and value before now would surely start looking closer at him, even as he continues plying his trade in the lower cadre English Championship.
The skilful attacking midfielder, who is having his best season as a professional footballer, with goals and four assists already to his name in 20 Championship fixtures, his value has hit an all time high, yet with prospects of getting even better and advancing much further.
Interestingly, Eze’s name sake, Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu is also in the news and, despite not being named in CIES’ ratings, he is buzzing with personal plaudits of his own, following another battling outing with his club in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Although his side lost 4-0 to AS Napoli of Italy in their final game of the group stage, Onuachu was rated highly by leading sports newspaper, Corriere della Sera, which singled out the Super Eagles’ rookie, despite his team falling under the fury of a first-half hat-trick by Arkadiusz Milik and Dries Mertens’ 75th minute screamer.
Onuachu gained top marks among his colleagues, despite missing two opportunities to score in the first half of his second start in the UCL, as he hit the side netting in the 16th minute and then blasted over the bar in the 42nd.
Nonetheless, among all 14 players that featured for Genk in the encounter at Stadio San Paolo, Onuachu got the best marks awarded by Corriere della Sera, while La Repubblica named him the Belgian club’s joint-best performer on the night in Naples.
