Nigeria’s women soccer national team, Super Falcons’ former captain, Desire Oparanozie is hunting around for a new club, following a shock decision by the management of Guingamp of France not to offer her a new contract at the end of the season, megasportsarena.com reports.
In spite of several captivating performances and epoch-making outings she had with the team, Oparanozie failed to convince the hierarchy at Guingamp to give her a contract extension after spending six glorious years with the French club.
She is now one of six players whose contracts have not been extended by Guingamp, after the season in France was called off due to the coronavirus pandemic that has ravaged almost every country of the world, which has now made Oparanozie a free agent and in search of a new club during the upcoming summer transfer window.
This development s a massive shock for the Falcons’ captain at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, as she enjoyed good form for the club before the campaign was canceled; having ex celled in every game she played helped her side reach the FA Cup’s semi-finals and scored six goals in 12 league matches.
However, it is now end of the road for the 26-year-old power playing forward, who arrived at Guingamp from Ataşehir Belediyespor of Turkey in 2014 and scored 45 goals in a total of 106 matches for the French women’s top-flight club.
She had also been named captain of the club at the beginning of the 2019/20 season and began her leadership reign with victory over FC Metz on the opening day of the campaign but the ex-Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa star is now long for a new lease of life elsewhere.
This marks a highpoint of woes for the 26-year-old striker, who has also previously played in Germany and Russia; as she lost her place and band n the Falcons when she was blacklisted by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for allegedly leading a strike by the players at last year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in the same country where she has now been sent into the labour market.
