Arsenal of England youngster, Bukayo Saka has sensationally turned his back on a sumptuous offer from The Gunners’ English Premier League rivals Liverpool, as he prefers taking his chances on a potentially rosy future at Emirates Stadium, megasportsarena.com reports.
Despite recent reports that he might be on the verge of losing his first team spot with Arsenal, and seemed to struggle for form in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Brighton, at a point he has also been asking for a switch back to his original position down the left flank, Saka is now said to be on the brink of signing a new deal with his North London club.
This is according to British sports newspaper, The Athletic, which reports that Saka, who only on Wednesday received his February player of the month trophy, is bound to officially to reject interest from Liverpool and sign a new contract with The Gunners, with which the 18-year-old Nigerian-born lad has waxed strong as a make-shift left-back since the beginning of this season.
Consequently, despite being linked with a move to Anfield this summer, as apprehension rose among Arsenal fans that his contract at The Emirates is due to expire next summer, the England under-19 international, who is also said to have caught the attention of Manchester United, is now staying put in London.
Rather than move on, Saka will now sign a new contract with Arsenal in the coming days, as the report noted further that an improved deal for the dark-skinned youngster had already been so close to being agreed prior to the suspension of football in March, due to the effects of COVID-19 and, with the season now back in full swing, he is ready to stay in north London.
Speaking on the player’s contract extension saga, Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta declared that he has never been in doubt that Saka will opt to stay put at Emirates Stadium, and posited that the youngster will soon sign a new deal with the club.
Arteta affirmed: “I am very positive that everything is going to be done with Bukayo very shortly. The communications between the club, agents and the family has been going on for months and is very fluent. The player and family knows how much trust I have in him.
“I think he is just showing that every week and his consistency level is getting better and better. I’m so excited with the young players that we have. They just need the right environment around them to explode and Bukayo is doing that even in difficult circumstances; which is even more merit for him.”
