Super Eagles’ coordinator, Patrick Pascal has cast his thoughts ahead of this weekend’s much-talked about international friendly against Brazil, with a verdict that the result at Singapore National Stadium can go either way, with victory or defeat for Nigeria, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although the ex-international former defender acknowledged that Brazil will enter the game with a star-studded squad, and most of their players currently in top form for their respective clubs, he reckoned that the Eagles will be able to hold their own and get a decent result.
While not ruling out the possibility of a draw in Sunday’s game, the former Wikki Tourist of Bauchi and Shooting Stars of Ibadan right-back, who was part of Nigeria’s gold medal winning squad to Atlanta ’96 Olympics, added that mathematical calculations are different in football.
With that view in mind, ‘PP’ went on to predict an exciting match on Sunday, the result of which he reckons could be different from the last time the Samba Boys beat the Eagles 3-0 in Abuja back in 2003, but he admitted the current Nigerian team is lightweight, compared to Brazil’s.
He, however, added in his preview of the October 13 cracker on Brila FM that the Eagles should be able to hold their own to a large extent, as the like of Victor Osimhen from Lille Metropole of France, Samuel Chukwueze from Villarreal of Spain and Emmanuel Bonaventure Dennis from Club Brugge of Belgium should be able to bring their current form at their respective clubs to bear on the Nigerian squad’s performance.
Pascal posited: “We don’t have the same quality of players they have. We do not have players in clubs like Manchester City or Liverpool, while they have some of the world’s best stars. They even have two of their goalkeepers among the current top three in the world.
“It means we are going to come up against a fantastic team on Sunday; but that is not say we are going to lose. Because, in football, 2+2 can be 17, 22 or even four, but it can go any way. We also have our young players to count on for this match in Singapore. Osimhen is doing well, same with Dennis and Chukwueze. So, we should be able to give Brazil a good match.”
