IFK Goteborg of Sweden midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf is billed to stay put at the Scandinavian club until the summer of 2022, according to their sports manager, Kennet Andersson, megasportsarena.com gathered.
While Yusuf’s fans, friends and family would have loved to see the former Akwa United of Uyo dazzler move to a club in central Europe, he has instead opted to continue his development in the Swedish Allsvenskan, much to the delight of Andersson.
Thy sys in contrast with widespread reports since the start of this year that Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United of England had been linked with summer deals for the highly promising teenager, after he impressed marvelously during his debut season in Sweden.
With his second season in The Land of The Midnight Sun already on, Yusuf has picked up from where he left off last time out, as he continues showing rare team work and all-round efforts to contribute to their collective success, instead of seeking personal glory.
Yusuf already has three assists in four matches this campaign, with all the mars coming from the FA Cup (Svenska Cupen) before action was suspended due to the ongoing scourge of the novel coronavirus, and Andersson believes the youngster will contribute more to success at IFK when the league finally resumes after the pandemic.
Andersson, though, denied reports about Ajax Amsterdam of Holland and FC Copenhagen of Denmark showing interest in the 19-year-old Yusuf, who was in contention to feature for Nigeria at the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland, but he was not released by IFK.
“I saw it, but know nothing about it. We extended it and we did that until 2022. We did this last year. Somewhere there,” Andersson told Goteborgs-Posten.
