Austria’s Nigerian-born left-back, David Olatokunbo Alaba will not leave Bayern Munich in the January transfer window, as The Bavarians’ coach, Hansi Flick insists they have no intention of selling the versatile defender.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that, in spite of widespread reports indicating that Alaba has a strong transfer link with Chelsea of England, Flick went on to reject suggestions that the Austrian captain could be sold to The Blues.
Rather than let go of the 27-year-old versatile star, who can play left-back, centre-back and in central midfield, Flick downplayed speculation that Alaba is wanted by the London-based English Premier League side.
This is in contrast with repeated reports that Alaba is still subject of a nearly £60m bid from The Blues, as Flick insists there is no fear about Munich losing their prized left-back this winter , while also affirming that he expects Ghanaian-born Germany defender, Jerome Boateng to remain at the club despite strong links with Arsenal.
The 31-year-old Boateng has been at Bayern from Manchester City in 2011 and was first-choice at the back for the first few years, but fitness problems began to have an impact in 2015-16 and he is yet to play more than 20 Bundesliga matches in a single season since.
This term Boateng has featured in nine of a possible 17 league matches and, with Bayern looking more towards young players and Arsenal in need of defensive reinforcements, the experienced centre-back has been linked with a departure, but Flick parried talk about both stars leaving.
Flick stated: “Jerome is a player of Bayern Munich and I will not concern myself with any rumours, that’s what I did the last years. Jerome came back to training well-prepared, he prepared himself on holiday. So, I am curious what the next week will bring.
“I will not concern myself with thoughts if he will leave the club or not. He didn’t say anything regarding that and we are constantly in an exchange. We have to see how these things develop, but right now I cannot picture it.”
