Megasportsarena.com can report that Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi has received the nod from the club’s coach, Ernst Middendorp to start this weekend’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) clash against their visitors, Bloemfontein Celtics.
Although Akpeyi missed action in Amakhosi’s last game of the Rainbow Nation’s top-flight league, Middendorp declared that the Super Eagles’ shot-stopper is the fittest of the lot in his squad for now and is bound to get the gloves on Saturday.
Middendorp added that he is once again looking up to Akpeyi, because the club’s South African star, Itumeleng Khune is not yet fully fit, despite returning to training last week, as the preferred first choice still needs more time to get back peak form.
It means Akpeyi is on course to start against Celtic this weekend and probably retain his spot till the end of the year, with Khune only likely to make a push for a place in January, as Chiefs look to extend their lead atop of the Absa Premiership table to 13 points with victory in Durban.
Middendorp said: “We have to make a decision about who from a point of competitiveness is best prepared for this game we have on Saturday. It is Daniel Akpeyi and it is he who will play. The second best prepared at the moment is Bruce Bvuma and he will be the second goalkeeper.”
